But why is the female main family growing in Bangladesh?

According to the Bureau of Statistics, 84 percent of the households headed by women are widows or heads of households due to separation from their husbands.

Unmarried young girls are also now taking on a lot of family responsibilities.

21 percent of female head households are 15 years of age or younger.

Dr. Obaidur Rob, Bangladesh head of the Population Council, an international research organization on population, was mentioning some of the main reasons for the increase in female-headed households.

“A large number of migrant people working abroad are managing the families of their wives or their mothers. As such, the female-headed household is growing. Another is the employment of girls, especially in the garment sector. They are also creating a kind of family,” she said.

At present, more than one crore people are working in various countries of the world including the Middle East. He also mentions that women live longer than men.

Such families are likely to grow in the future.

If the current trend is maintained, by 2030, the number of women-headed families will be 25 percent.
